FAQ - Quotes & Communication

  • How do I get a quote from you?

For all commission work, you must contact me directly via @EngraveBeast on Instagram, or by filling out the form at the bottom of my homepage. For items on eBay or Etsy, you must correspond with me there.

  • Is engraved artwork road legal?

Buyers responsibility. I am not responsible to assure it is legal in your state, county, city or town. It is your responsibility to research your statues prior to purchase. In general, engraving does not obstruct visibility, which is generally considered safe. EngraveBeast does not tint or color any pieces requiring visibility as that is illegal across the United States.

  • What is the process for engraving?

You send me the necessary info for a quote. If requested, I will send you up to 5 free proofs before its a $20 charge to continue drafting. One all is said and done, I direct you to my payment portal — then you send me your item of choice, I complete them, and I pay to return them to you.

  • When will you respond to my email, send me my quote, or make me a design rendition?

I respond within a week (excluding weekends) on almost all requests — for design renditions, depending on the complexity of the work we are doing, I will personally keep you updated — you won’t be left in the dark.

  • How is your pricing calculated?

My billable rate is $50/hr and I calculate the time needed to complete your project based upon size, complexity, and my understanding of how quick I can work, while honoring that your project must be of high quality. I am a one-(wo)man-show and try to keep my prices in line with my co-artists in the trade. All production costs, shipping costs, an materials are floated by myself personally.

  • Why do you only ship in the US?

I am a one-(wo)man-show, low cash flow business, as previously stated, a lot of overhead costs are assumed by myself personally, and usually the cost of international shipping exceeds my billable rate. Now that isn’t efficient, is it? I may consider a higher rate for international orders, however that is an equality conflict amongst customers, however if that is no issue to you, I am open to discussion on a case-by-case basis.

FAQ - Working Together

  • How long does the process take?

Your initial quote will be done within seven days, thereafter it depends on whether or not we go through drafting and the shipping transit time. Drafting responses are a week at most. At busy times my turnover time is 1-4 weeks, it is usually less, but if it is on the higher end, I inform you and deeply appreciate flexibility and patience. Timeline significantly varies by complexity of project, the material we are working with, and size.

  • I ordered a custom project, what's a drafting stage?

Once I quote you based off of the details provided, I will give you a first draft, then we can work together to tailor it to your liking. All drafts are done via digital drawing. I will do four redrafts free of charge. Five or more redrafts is a $20 non-refundable fee paid via my Square portal. This fee covers my time, as I work hard to make sure we have a design you’re 100% happy with.

  • "I want you to surprise me" or "do whatever you want"

Heck yeah! I am open to all projects that give me 100% of design power. In this case, I do not share drafts, as I usually free-hand your item. Again, all work will adhere to the best of quality.

  • What prep work is done with engraved surfaces?

I measure the depth and integrity of your item, whether that be a light lens, a mirror, or a plastic piece. I discourage engraving on non-oem, or budget “china” items. Items that are low quality are at risk of breaking. In the event I assess your item to not be safe enough to engrave, I will send it back to you with a refund minus the cost of return shipping (i.e., you pay me $100 for my work, but to ship it back its $10, so you will receive a refund of $90).

  • I'm sending you an item directly from Amazon, eBay, or another retailer. What do I need to know?

You can send me new items if you wish — however I discourage you from sending me them directly from a manufacturer you are not capable of getting free shipping or a 100% refund from. So items offered via Amazon Prime are best case here! This is due to in the event they arrive damaged, that will put me in an awkward position if you can’t get a full refund, or a cost-and-worry-free return

  • You ran a discount while we were working together...can I have a refund?

Your price is locked in at the time of signing off on your quote. The only way it could change is if you miss the sign-off date, and we must re-quote. All quotes are valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated.

FAQ - Shipping & Payment

  • Do you accept returns, exchanges or refunds? What happens if my item breaks?

In general, there are no returns or refunds. To remedy the anxiety that a statement such as that triggers, I have the EngraveBeast guarantee — please see the full disclosure at the bottom of this page. The work I do is permanent and the services rendered are extremely time consuming. Therefore, engraving will not be redone.

  • What methods of payment do you accept and how are taxes calculated?

My payment portal is powered by Square. It accepts any US-issued and most internationally-issued magstripe or chip cards bearing a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, or UnionPay International logo. I am working hard to offer PayPal in the future. For taxes, they are not factored into your quote — Square automatically registers them within the payment portal per your local rates.

  • Where are you located? Are costs different for locals?

USA-Made and USA-Proud. Minnesota is where I call home — all items will be shipped here, and I will return them back to you from my snowy state.

For locals, my billable rate is still $50/hr on all projects, big or small.

  • Do you ship to Hawaii or Alaska?

I do not ship outside of mainland United States — due to shipping exceeding my billable rate. I am aiming to change this in the future for my international customers and for my fellow Americans who are across the pond or a quick detour through Canada away.

  • I changed my mind after I shipped you my lights, what should I do?

This will be managed on a case-by-case basis. If I have completed, begun, or am partially finished with your work, no refund. If I have not started, you will receive a refund minus the cost of return shipping (i.e., you pay me $100 for my work, but to ship it back its $10, so you will receive a refund of $90).

  • Where can I purchase ready to order items?

Though eBay. All engraving orders are done 1:1 and not readily available for order other than overstock I may post on there. See the “Services” section for more information.

Sometimes art may break due to shipping or other environmental factors. Whether that be improper installation, bad weather, a not-so-careful shipping carrier, or stiff suspension.

If your artwork breaks within the first month after purchase, if it is lights, I will redo one for free of cost (no design changes), you just pay shipping to me; if it is mirrors, I will redo a set for you, you just have to manage shipping to me, and the purchase of new lenses. If more than one breaks, I charge a flat $100 for rework of lights. If you have a large project (i.e. a light bar, or an item with a very complex design at my discretion), that is handled on a case by case basis.

If you wish to change your design for a completely new set, returning customers receive a $50.00 discount.
